The HKIE GEOTECHNICAL DIVISION 32ND ANNUAL SEMINAR
Geotechnical Aspects of Tunnelling for Infrastructure Development
CALL FOR REGISTRATION
THEME
In recent years, tunnel and underground constructions have become very common in
infrastructure development projects in Hong Kong, especially for developments in
its densely developed urban areas and rugged hilly terrains. The geotechnical profession
in Hong Kong has gained valuable experience in tunnel and underground constructions.
The 2012 HKIE Geotechnical Division Annual Seminar will serve as a platform for
the profession to consolidate our experience and geotechnical expertise in tunnel
and underground constructions, and to equip ourselves with the knowledge to meet
the challenges from underground developments in the years ahead. We are honoured
to have Ms Grace Lui, Atg. Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) of the Government
of the HKSAR, to be our guest of honour of the seminar. Two international experts,
Professor Raymond Sterling and Mr Nick Shirlaw will deliver keynote lectures in
areas of underground developments in rock caverns and soft ground tunnelling. There
will be presentations of selected papers covering various aspects, e.g. state of
the art in management of geotechnical risk, design and construction technologies
(e.g. ground freezing), research and development work, as well as knowledge and
experience grained from completed and on-going projects.
